I'm proud to add that for old ATI/AMD video cards, like my 4650, i guess it will work for other cards too, that A LOT of fps drop issue could be avoided changing desktop AND in game resolution to a less one, and using emulate desktop (in wine config) to the same desktop resolution:

ie. I had on my max desktop:1366x768, emulated desktop: 1366x768, in game resolution fullscreen mode: 1366x768 = 15-20 fps in normal stages 8-15 during fights; unplayable.

now i am in desktop: 1280x768, emulated desktop: 1280x768, in game fullscreen resolution: 1280x768 =32-45 fps in normal stages, 26-40 during fights = VERY MORE playable EVEN in coop mode!

Try it and let me know if it works for you too!

To get it to the most nice fps you can try to go to AMD Catalyst Control Center and go to 3d-->mipmap: take it to the lowest, go to 3D-->Others and take vertical refresh(the first bar) to the lowest.
