Description, steps to reproduce:
First, thank you for this awesome tool!
Feature initially requested in http://www.playonlinux.com/en/issue-45.html, but I think only the Desktop was implemented. In my opinion it currently lacks integration with the programs menu.
A) Support for .desktop Shortcuts stored in /home/{USER}/.local/share/applications (because wine is userbased, this is the most suitable folder). About icon category: predefined in Games or manually selectable by dropdown. Add option to predefine that in the install scripts.
B) Global Configuration Settings to define, what to do if a Shortcut is created:
- define about automatic icon on desktop (currently forced / unchangable)
- define about automatic .desktop file in /home/{USER}/.local/share/applications (currently unsupported - in addition to A)
(With Shortcuts I mean the POL ones, not from the software installers one)
Short explanation: I mainly use Gnome Do for launching different programs, which uses these .desktop files as index. But I think its also generally useful for Unity and Gnome. It also adds better support for the "Open with"-menu, if I'm not wrong. I never use the desktop icons so I can save minimal time deleting them ;)

I just found out, that on the Desktop there are .desktop files. So maybe it's easier to have a configurable option to change the defaultpath
