Is it possible to install updates and service packs for Word 2010 or Office 2010 inside PlayOnLinux?

I tried several times to install Service Pack 1 inside the wine-prefix
for Office, but in the end there is always an error message (Ubuntu
12.04, POL 4.1.1).

When there are updates available for Word 2010, how do you install them? When I try to fetch updates
via File/Help/Check for updates, Wine Internet Explorer starts (a
rather reduced version of IE 6), but it is impossible for me
to configure it (there is no menu bar and no options buttion to make
such a bar visible). So I simply do not know how to access Windows
Update functions or other options to get updates for Word.

How do you do that without having "true" Windows installed? I am very curious about that. - Christoph

Can you give more details about the error?

I tried to install officesuite2010sp1-kb2460049-x86-fullfile-de-de.exe both by choosing the icon "Word 2010" and by choosing the virtual drive "Office 2010".

There appears a window for accepting license rules and there are messages that the "recognition of updates" is running and that data are being "extracted".

Then, after about 2 minutes, there is an error message: "Microsoft Office Service Pak 1 - Fehler beim Installieren dieses Pakets" (errors in installation of this package).

When I click "OK", POL tells me that Wine seems to have crashed.

No, I am not sure. As is often the case with Windows. So probably it does not matter very much if this service pack (which does not seem to contain many improvements for Word, the only MS Office program I am running on POL) has been installed or not.

But for me, there is still that question: How do I install Windows updates (in this case, updates for Microsoft Office) without having access to "Windows Update"? The Wine version of Internet Explorer does not seem to serve this function.

One reason for my asking this question is that I would like to implement AddOns by SmartTools to Word 2010 (see http://www.add-in-world.com/katalog/). It just doesn't work (without any error messages) to install those add-ins with Word 2010. Maybe there is a very simple aspect of POL that I do not grasp.

You have to download manually the patch and install it into the good wine virtual drive, exactly as you did :)
