I have installed PlayonLinux and have a Windows Office CDROM and product key.

I am only installing Excel and have only selected this for installation.

PlayonLinux indicates that this will be installed on the C drive. This is a problem as that is where I have the Windows operating system installed on its own hard drive on my computerr.

LinuxMint is installed on a separate hard drive and this is where PlayonLinux is loaded.

On my LinuxMint installation I have a folder called 'Play on Linux's virtual drives'.

If I just press install as is offered by PlayonLinux will Excel be installed in the PlayonLinux virtual drive folder or somewhere else.

All help appreciated as I am a first time user of PlayonLinux.

The "Drive C" Wine (PoL) installs the program to is virtual.  I run Wine and it installs programs to my home folder within the hidden .wine folder.

  /home/(your user name here)/.wine/drive_c

However Play on Linux has a slightly different set up, I think you will find your virtual drives in .playonlinux folder.

  /home/(your user name here)/.PlayOnLinux

After that point, I am not sure where they set up the virtual drive, but it won't write to your Windows drive or any other drive.

Linux doesn't really identify drives as A: B: C: those are just for the Microsoft program to find its way.  Linux uses device paths.

Meanwhile, if you are looking for a nice free Linux, Excel like spreadsheet, I would strongly recommend the Libre Office package.  You can read all about it here https://www.libreoffice.org

After the installation completes you can shut down your computer, remove the bootable USB drive and the next time turn on your machine you should be presented by a grub window as shown below, letting you choose between Linux (Ubuntu, 1st Option) and Windows (Windows Boot Manager). And there you have your own dual booted system.
