How do I edit "10-ptrace.conf" when the folder won't let me? I can view the file, and open it in Mousepad or Notepad, but the folder refuses to allow me to save it. I can copy it to another location, then edit & save it. BUT, then I can't copy and paste it back into /etc/sysctl.d folder. The folder appears to be locked by the root. The ONLY thing that seems to work right is

echo 0 | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope

at the Terminal.

Don't just tell people "edit this file in this folder as root..." and expect everybody to "know" what you're talking about.

Where did you read about editing the 10-ptrace.conf?  I've never seen that before.  Normally I run the command in the Terminal and it works fine.

I've only used it for installing:

  • dotnet30
  • dotnet35
  • dotnet35 sp1

dotnet 20 & 40 will install without it.
