Hey Booman!

My current video card is AMD HD5770 and I use the official drivers from their website (http://i.imgur.com/No6znrH.png).

I also play World of Tanks under Linux and it runs amazing (I switched GW2 Wine version to 1.7.4-CSMT as well today, it increased the in-game performance, but the launcher issue remained).

Unfortunately I only have GeForce video cards so I will have a hard time helping you with Drivers and such.
I've read a lot about AMD drivers causing problems in Linux, but since you can play World of Tank, it seems you have everything configured correctly.

Yeah, also try Wine 1.7.39 staging as well.
Might as well try a bunch of different versions.

I've even seen custom Wine version in PlayOnLinux for GW2, so you may want to check those out as well.
There is a conflict somewhere, but very hard to pinpoint.

I'll do some research on your card and Guild Wars 2 in WINE

Here is a Youtube video of someone running GW2 with the same video card:

Wine 1.5.2

It turns out your symptoms are very common for everyone...

Check out WineHQs:  Guild Wars 2

Here is an important piece of information on WineHQ's

One of the biggest areas where Windows users have a huge advantage over us Wine users (actually, this seems to be almost the entirity of our problem) is multi-core processing. GW2 is built to take advantage of quad core processors. GW2 running in wine for some reason ignores multiple cores and only makes use of one.
So what can we do about this? To be honest? Spend money or overclock. Again, your mileage will probably vary here; but with my Phenom II x4 965 CPU, I gain about 5-10 FPS per 200 MHz increase in core frequency. I managed to run my CPU at 4.0GHz for around 30 minutes before my computer crashed (stock clock is 3.4 GHz) and I was getting 45-50 FPS in normal play, 30 FPS in large events and WvW (I didn't get very far, though ... that was not a stable overclock).
So in the end, your best bet is a CPU upgrade or bumping up your core clock speed. But if you do buy a CPU upgrade, just remember that the speed of a single core is more important than how well all the cores work together (i.e. intel CPUs will dominate here).

Thanks a lot Booman! I don't know why I missed WineHQ when searching for these issues... Anyhow, it does seem that the game has its issues currently, but after tweaking around with the settings (trying to match my World of Tanks setup), I did manage to get it to a not only a playable, but also an enjoyable state (40-ish FPS when in a quieter area, no graphical errors so far). Gaming is not the most important thing in my life, so I am very happy with the results.

Even though it seems that the processor's single core performance is one of the deciding factors in Linux gaming performance through Wine, I am certain my next upgrade will be my GPU: I will move to Nvidia's Maxwell series (750Ti brings a tear to my eyes when looking at the hardware info).

Awesome!  I'm glad its running with a decent frame rate.
The single-processor problem is very rare...
I mostly have success with games on my 3-core AMD Phantom II.
As Wine gets better they should be able to resolve these types of problems.
Enjoy Guild Wars 2

I just want to state here that......

I also had the freeze problem, and still have. The freeze problem causes the launcher to use 50% of one core (I think) and Xorg to use 100% of another core. My system becomes completely unresponsive but that is just the drawing because it does respond to what I do, so I can "blindly" type my password, press login, and press play, and then it goes past that and the launcher goes away and with it the Xorg problem. Then the game runs normally, albeit very slow.
