I'm just coming out of the LTSpice installation experience... ...and thanks to another thread in this forum got it solved. Hence I want to share:

Started with the x86 install of LTSpiceXVII, but the exe did not start no matter what I tried to reconfigure. Always there was a "flie not found" error popping up, followed by several others of a same kind.

Then deleted and reinstalled the x64 version, with the same LTSpice installer (did not even know this is possible ...) and now it works out like a charm, as a x64 configuration. Not even that I have had to change the WINE version, just keeping the system default "wine-5.0 (Ubuntu 5.0-3ubuntu1)", running on "Linux Mint 20.2 Uma" on kernel "5.4.0-81-generic".

Thanks Peter, your advice was instrumental,

Thomas
