64-bit Linux user? We need you!

Saturday 22 January 2011 at 23:44 (7 comments)

Good evening,

As the manager of the WineBuild aspect of PlayOnLinux, I can now announce that a Wine package compiled and (hopefully) functional for 64-bit architecture is coming soon!

However, before we start integrating this into PlayOnLinux's main code, I need you to test a few things with version 1.2.1, to make sure the package is working as it should.

Since it is not possible yet to directly integrate a new Wine version install into PlayOnLinux's WineVersion manager, you will have to click "Install" and search for "get:787" (without the quotes), then click Install.

That will allow you to install the 1.2.1 version of Wine compiled for the 64-bit architecture and will make it available in the WineVersion menu as "1.2.1-64b".

You can then assign it to a particular application and make a few tests.

Please let us know whether "it works" or "doesn't work". If it does not, make sure to include as many details as possible and tell us if it works with the 32-bit version of 1.2.1 (both can be installed at once, and you can get it from WineVersion, as usual).

That's pretty much it. Ready, set, go!

MulX

UPDATE: You can now install more Wine Version in 64 bits by browsing "Install" -> "Other" -> "Wine Version x86-64".

A new chat interface for PlayOnLinux

Monday 17 January 2011 at 23:43 (0 comments)

We added a little something to the website today: an integrated chatroom!

[box title=Jappix_Logo]https://www.playonmac.com/images/uploads/183.jpg[/box]
The chatroom uses Jappix and the XMPP protocol, also known as Jabber.

This means you can use your existing Jabber account to log into in the chatroom.

To use it, simply click the "Chat" button at the bottom right corner. If you are logged into the site, your username will automatically be used; otherwise, you will be asked to choose one.

Please note that this doesn't mean there will always be someone there to answer your questions, or that when there are people logged in they are not away from their keyboard. Just like the IRC chatroom, and the same rules also apply.

To use your Jabber account, log into the playonlinux room on chat.jabberfr.org.

Monday 17 January 2011 at 23:36 (2 comments)

Good evening,

Here is something you have been expecting for a long time; you asked for it, we did it!
The Ubuntu and Debian packages and repositories for PlayOnLinux are finally signed.

To add our key to your distribution, under Debian, run this command :
wget -q "http://deb.playonlinux.com/public.gpg" -O - | apt-key add -
Or, in Ubuntu:
wget -q "http://deb.playonlinux.com/public.gpg" -O - | sudo apt-key add -
Also note that the Fedora repository has been updated to use the same key.

Two New Games for PlayOnLinux

Wednesday 1 December 2010 at 23:07 (1 comments)

Good evening,

We have two games for you this time: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Two Worlds II.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light:
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an action-adventure game. It is of course a continuation of the most famous video game heroine's adventures. There's however something very new in this installment: a coop mode allows you to have a second player tag along, who will play a mysterious Aztec warrior while you take on the role of Lara Croft. That's a first for this franchise!

For details, visit the PlayOnLinux forum HERE.

Two Worlds II:
Two Worlds II is a medieval-fantasy role-playing game that takes place in the realm of Antaloor. You play the same hero from the previous game, 5 years later, this time held captive by the mysterious Gandohar. Your hope of seeing your sister again is ever-dwindling, until the day your sworn enemies the Orcs set you free. Take back your freedom and fight the forces of evil, and you might shed some light over Gandohar's dark past.

Alien Breed: Impact now on PlayOnLinux

Monday 22 November 2010 at 21:30 (0 comments)

Good evening,

Before earning fame from the Worms franchise, Team 17 delivered several great games in the '90s, mostly on Amiga. They are the Brit geniuses who gave us, among others, an excellent beat'em all called Alien Breed. Now a classic, the game deserved an HD revival, like many of the company's titles. Well, you can check that off your list since you can already listen to the machine-gun melodies in Alien Breed: Impact's infinite space.

For details, visist the PlayOnLinux forum HERE.

Also, thanks to Benj's contribution, you can now enjoy EverQuest II Sentinel's Fate.
